"We originally planned to do the clean-up twice a year," says Phi Theta Kappa president, Amanda Even. "But this year, we've managed to do it four times thanks to the efforts of the walking classes. They deserve all the recognition."
The College's honor society, Phi Theta Kappa deserves credit for planning an entire week of activities for Earth Week. The clean-up was a part of "Clean Communities Day." Phi Theta Kappa also recruited the walking class, planned the areas to be cleaned and provided the supplies, such as bags, orange vests and gloves.
"Activities such as this not only raise awareness about our environment, but they also create a sense of the shared responsibility we have as students of this college and inhabitants of this planet," Even adds.
This spring effort surpassed last fall's effort by three bags. Most of the trash was recyclable, Even says.
