Chinese University Partnership
Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Zhaoqing University in Zhaoqing, People’s Republic of China, established a sister-college relationship in December 1994. The sister-university relationship with Zhaoqing University provides a wonderful opportunity for Anoka-Ramsey and Zhaoqing University students, faculty, and staff to develop new cultural perspectives with a lively exchange of U.S./Chinese customs, lifestyles, and traditions.
Zhaoqing University is situated in Zhaoqing City, a national tourist destination famous for its green hills and limestone crags. Zhaoqing is part of Guandong Province’s Pearl River Delta, an early gateway into south China and an area with strong cultural traditions and educational foundations.
Zhaoqing University is the only higher learning institution in the Zhaoqing area. Founded in 1970, Zhaoqing University is a state-run establishment and enrolls students in four-year degree programs. 10,947 full-time students and 5.347 part-time students attend Zhaoqing University. The university is committed to promoting social and economic development in Zhaoqing and it neighboring Yunfu district, both of which have a population of more than seven million.
Each year, Zhaoqing University sends one of its faculty members to teach at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. This visiting scholar teaches Beginning and Intermediate Chinese Language classes as well as Chinese Culture classes. The scholar also works as an ambassador of Zhaoqing University and works with Anoka-Ramsey students who may be interested in studying at Zhaoqing University. Annually one to three Anoka-Ramsey students spend a semester or an entire academic year studying at Zhaoqing University.
