The Golden Rams Split Matches in Illinois

September 18, 2008
The Golden Rams traveled to Grayslake, IL Sept. 12-13 to play four matches against NJCAA DII teams at the College of Lake County Tournament.  They began play on Friday evening against the #26 pre-season ranked Elgin Community College.  After easily winning the first set 25-11, Anoka-Ramsey lost the second set and had to battle to win the third set by a score of 15-12.  The Golden Rams defeated South Suburban Community College in their second match on Friday, 25-18, 25-17.

On Saturday, the Golden Rams faced two of the toughest teams they've seen all season.  Their first match on Saturday was against the #15 ranked Loggers of Lincoln Land Community College.  Anoka-Ramsey fought hard in the first set and had trouble passing the volleyball in the second set as they lost 22-25, 13-25.  The Golden Rams played their final match of the tournament against #22 ranked Kankakee Community College and lost another close one, 23-25, 22-25.

After playing phenomenal throughout the tournament, Jordan Noska, a 5'9 middle hitter for the Golden Rams, was named to the All-Tournament Team.

"All we've been hearing from coaches and spectators so far this season is how well we play considering we only have six players, but it doesn't mean much to us unless we win. Our players and coaching staff have had to deal with a great deal of adversity with the loss of key players throughout the season, but we are still determined to reach our goal of going to the NJCAA DIII Tournament," said Rongere after the tournament this past weekend.

It will be an uphill battle for the Golden Rams the remainder of their season, but they have the talent and mental toughness to challenge other teams in the MCAC Southern Division and potential to reach their goal.

The Golden Rams are currently 1-2 in the MCAC Southern Division and 11-10 overall.   They are lead by 2007 NJCAA All-American, Jordan Noska, who is at the top of the NJCAA DIII leader board with 4.24 kills per game.   Anoka-Ramsey will play their next match at #8-ranked Ridgewater Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 17.  Their next home match is on Friday, Sept. 19, against St. Thomas University's JV at 4:30 p.m. and Northwestern College's JV at 6:30 p.m.
