Jay Nelson – Interim Chief Human Resources Officer

Introduction: Jay came to Anoka Technical College after working for the State of Minnesota for more than 15 years. He has worked in Human Resources for more than 8 years, including time at Minneapolis Community & Technical College, Minnesota State Lottery, and the Department of Human Services. Jay has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota, Morris.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:
Achievement Awards, Affirmative Action, ADA, Contract Interpretation/Implementation, Supervisory Training, Classification, Compensation, Data Practices/ Data Privacy, Grievances, Hiring process/procedures, Employee Investigations, Faculty Credentialing, Faculty Step Placement, Leaves of Absences, offers of employment, Personnel Polices/Procedures, Sabbaticals, Separations/Resignations, Unemployment, and Performance Management. As well as, overall oversight of the human resources department.

Secondary Areas of Responsibility: 
Advertising/Recruiting, Personnel Data, and Recruitment processes/procedures.


Dawn Hohmann - Director of Data Integrity

Introduction: Dawn has joined the Human Resources team at Anoka-Ramsey with 9 years of Human Resources experience in the private industry.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls.  Dawn is a certified Professional in Human Resources and is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).

Primary Areas of Responsibility:
Job audits, class specifications, data integrity, unemployment claims, HR supervisor, policies/procedures, FMLA, reporting, contract interpretation, Workers' Compensation, ergonomic evaluations.

Gail Peterson - Human Resources Assistant

Introduction: Gail transferred to Anoka-Ramsey's HR Office after working in human resources for the State of Minnesota for 16 years. She also worked as an Academic Advisor at Metropolitan State University for 8 years. Gail has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from St. Cloud State University and a Master of Management and Administration degree from Metropolitan State University.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:
HRIS system, faculty transaction, HR employee Reporting.

Secondary Areas of Responsibility:
Data integrity, contract interpretation

Monica Franklin - Human Resources Assistant


Monica transferred to Anoka-Ramsey's HR Office from the Department of Human Services where she has worked in human resources for 3 1/2 years.  She has also previously worked at Metro State University in the Accounting department.

Primary Responsibilities:

Retirement, new employee orientations, tuition waivers, FMLA, SEI and Social Amenities coordinator, and first point of contact for all employee questions.

Secondary Areas of Responsibility:

Contract interpretation.
