College hosts Dr. Chris Johnson presenting The Opioid Epidemic: How the Medical Industry Created a Public Health Crisis, April 19

Dr. Chris Johnson will address the opioid crisis in a presentation titled, The Opioid Epidemic: How the Medical Industry Created a Public Health Crisis, at Anoka-Ramsey Community College Cambridge Campus’s 31st annual Science Night, Thursday, April 19, 7:30 to 8:30 pm, Rm G202. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Johnson is a nationally-recognized expert on the opioid and heroin epidemic which currently claims over 25,000 American lives per year. He has spoken throughout the country on this topic to medical and non-medical audiences, and brings an urgent message on the need to reform a medical industry that has allegedly prioritized business interests over patient safety.
During his presentation, Dr. Johnson will discuss the problem of opioid use in the U.S., how it became a problem, why is persists and what individuals can do to help. He will pose questions about the health care system, costs of health care, and potential harm to health care patients.

Dr. Johnson garnered the First a Physician Award in 2017. This award, by Twin Cities Medical Society, honors the physician who has demonstrated selfless commitment to improving the lives of patients and making a positive impact on the quality of care practiced by the medical community.
He has spoken before Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Advisory Committees, hospital staffs, legal task forces, workers' compensation professionals, law enforcement organizations and patient advocacy groups―everyone with a stake in ending this crisis. His effectiveness at reaching his audience is reflected in the many repeat invitations he receives from these organizations to participate in future events.
