The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women’s Soccer team claimed the 2016 NJCAA District D Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29 in the Chicago area. For only the second time in college’s program history, the team will advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament held Nov. 10-13 in Toms River, New Jersey.

To earn a spot in the National tournament, he women’s team defeated College of DuPage, the #6 ranked team in the country. The score was tied at 1-1 forcing the game into overtime with Anoka-Ramsey prevailing 4-3. This was the third straight year the District Championship has come down to penalty kicks. Makayla Halford was impressive in goal, saving seven shots.

Adding to that win, Head Coach Brady Eichhorn-Hicks was named the Region XIII Coach of the Year for both the men and women’s soccer teams.

“We are really proud of our effort in Chicago,” said Eichhorn-Hicks. “We fought with everything we had and it turned out to be enough. DuPage is a very good team and we had to be at our best. The players showed that they could compete with anyone in the country.
