Music Department welcomes May with numerous musical events
April 13, 2018
The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Music Department will host four major events in May: a joint performance by concert band and orchestra, a guitar and world drumming ensemble, a choir concert, and two Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) graduate recitals.
Guitar Ensemble is open to all guitarists, bass guitarists, and upright bass players, and students who play other fretted string instruments. Minimal experience reading standard music notation is required. This ensemble performs a wide variety of genres and styles from Bach to rock and often incorporates improvisation in one or two pieces each semester.
World Drumming Ensemble studies and performs percussion music indigenous to the cultures of the globe with special attention paid to traditions that fall outside the umbrella of Eurocentric Art Music. The ensemble is open to all students regardless of musical background and experience.
The Concert Choir is a 60-80 voice ensemble that performs in three on-campus concerts per year, Concert Choir also participates in a day-tour each semester, traveling to area schools, churches, synagogues and other colleges. Every year, the Concert Choir performs a masterwork-level piece of repertoire with a professional orchestra.
Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) graduate recitals are the culmination of a Music student’s study. Students perform an average of 10 minutes on multiple pieces they have been working on over the course of the year. This year, Anoka-Ramsey will have 13 graduating students participating in the AFA recitals.
